The Emile Henry Story
It all started in 1848, when Jaques Henry discovered the world of ceramics in a small workshop in Marcigny, a village in his native Burgundy. When he was 20, he travelled the roads of France to meet other, more experienced, potters and develop his savoir-faire as a ceramist. Upon his return in 1850, he started the production of jugs, terrines and soup tureens in his workshop in Marcigny. In 1885, Jacques passed on to his son Paul a workshop which had a rich savoir-faire and was full of passion. His reputation quickly spread as far as Paris. Paul designed the Ruffled pie dish in 1911, and it soon became the iconic symbol of the Company. Thanks to Emile, Paul's son, the collection was updated and remained a best seller through the two World Wars.
